My mini-vacation from the day job is winding down to a close. Looking back at the past five days, I can at least say that I’ve gotten a lot done in terms of writing and reading. Getting to the gym? Not so much. Here’s a rundown of how Week 27 – AKA Week 1: Round 3 is shaping up.
Write 7000 words each week. 8339/7000. I had a 5K day on Monday, and with the writing done yesterday and today, I’ve already hit my goal for the week. In terms of writing, the rest of this week is going to be about (a) writing 1000 words each day and (b) spend some time plotting out a short prequel that I am hoping to post to my blog in serial fashion in order to get some feedback on my writing. I’m participating in CampNaNoWriMo this month and I’m still on track to meet my goal of 36K words for the month. Part of the master plan for the week is not racking up any word debt. Some more happy news about my writing is that I’m on a 14-day streak of no zero days.
Journal everyday. 3/3. I’ve managed to journal everyday since Round 3 started on Monday. The good news here is that I’m on another streak with my journalling–24 days in a row. I almost forgot to journal on Sunday and barely managed a super-short entry last night. This one is on track, and once I return to my regular work schedule it’ll be much easier to keep up the habit, as I try to journal at the same time everyday. Being on vacation means being out of my usual routine, so it’s been more challenging.
Read one book a week. I think maybe I am finally out of my reading funk. I’ve read five books in the last six days!
- The Sisters Brothers – Patrick DeWitt
- This Side of the Grave – Jeaniene Frost
- Turn Coat – Jim Butcher
- Surrender – Lisa Renee Jones
- The Return of Sherlock Holmes – Arthur Conan Doyle
- Ride Rough – Laura Kaye
Entice Me – J. Kenner
- Anchor Me – J. Kenner
- Ripley Under Ground – Patricia Highsmith
- Demon from the Dark – Kresley Cole
Just One Touch – Maya Banks Hard As Steel – Laura Kaye Hard Ever After – Laura Kaye
- The Iscariot Sanction – Mark A. Latham
- Random – Craig Robertson
Write one book review for my blog each week. I posted a review of Just One Touch by Maya Banks here on Saturday. I ended up giving this book 1-star when I rated it on my e-reader, and that is far from my norm. Still, I got the review posted for Week #26. Now I need to get something posted for Week #27.
Walk/Run twelve miles each week. I am totally failing at this goal! Not sure I will even get close to twelve miles considering that it’s Wednesday and I’m still at zero. But, if I can get even part of the way there I’m going to be happy. I can’t seem to build any momentum on this goal, but I’ll keep working at it.
Now that I’m here at the end of my post, the same question that entered my mind when I was making my goals post has returned: What did I do today to achieve my Dream Goals? I read books by two authors whose work I admire and I met my writing goal even though I have no idea where my project is going and feel like I’m spinning my wheels. I recommitted to the idea of posting some of my writing to my blog. I (once again) used my journal as a dumping ground for everything racing through my head and a way to remind myself of what’s important and assessing my progress. Looked at in that light, it’s been a good day.
